復歸

男主角鮑伯為了高片酬飛到東京拍攝一支威士忌酒廣告片，女主角夏洛特陪同從事攝影工作的丈夫來到東京。他們下榻於同一家旅店。現實生活中，他們兩人或許未必能產生交集，然而在異國陌生的城市，無法順利以其母語溝通的環境，文化隔閡反而是一種人際間的壓擠作用，如同在擁擠的電梯內，鮑伯一眼便從東方人堆裡，發現面帶微笑的夏洛特。

母語，僅是火種；寂寞，才是燃料。鮑伯與夏洛特的交會，並不全然是因為可以溝通的共同母語，是寂寞成為他們繼續溝通時的語言。鮑伯走入婚姻多年，也許愛情未必褪色，但是他的色彩已不及選擇居家裝潢佈置的色彩來得顯眼注目。夏洛特兩年新婚，愛情還不至於陳舊，但是他的鮮度恐怕不及接下一份攝影工作來得新鮮刺激。於是，語言溝通的障礙讓他們見到彼此，心靈溝通的匱乏讓他們自然靠近。

這段寂寞男女故事的發展，有著不落俗套的安排，雖然床上還是一個重點，卻非以上床為終點。夏洛特在日籍友人的陪同下，帶著鮑伯走進東京夜生活，在徹夜盡情狂歡之後，鮑伯雙手抱著累壞的夏洛特回到下榻的旅店。他們倆人共同躺在床上，從俯視的鏡頭看去，夏洛特在左，依著在母親子宮中胎兒的姿勢，側身面對鮑伯蜷曲身軀；鮑伯在右，敞開了身子平躺著。夏洛特已然入睡，還清醒著的鮑伯則是輕輕撫著拍著夏洛特的腳背。而後，兩個一直因時差或是寂寞而難以入眠的男女，終於恬適地安然入睡。

雖說寂寞不該當成出軌的理由，卻足以成為一次偷腥的藉口，鮑伯還是與在旅店駐唱的紅髮女歌手共度一夜春宵。對男女關係而言，這是最原始的情節，但是在這段故事走進結局之時，卻是提供了對比，襯托了一對寂寞男女相遇的純淨無邪。戲末，鮑伯結束了在東京的行程，準備搭乘返家的航班，當他人坐在前往機場的計程車上，無意間在車窗外再次瞥見夏洛特。這回，夏洛特走在人來人往的東京街頭。鮑伯要計程車駕駛停下車，而後衝向夏洛特。鮑伯喊住了夏洛特，緊緊地擁抱著她，輕輕地在她耳邊呢喃。而後，兩人終究是要揮別，只是沒有淚水，不見悲傷，留在夏洛特臉上的是，淺淺的微笑。

鮑伯究竟說了什麼？
